I’m a fan of ‘regression’ or ‘reborn’ novels and webtoons. The idea of starting fresh or going back in time with the knowledge you have now is hella tempting.
I actually had a conversation not long ago with a friend about what we’d do if we could go back in time, and they immediately told me about the stocks they’d invest in. Stock didn’t even occur to me (which it should have, because I like money just as much as anyone else LOL).
Nope, my thought was to start writing novels at a young age, instead of just dreaming about it. All things happen for a reason, and as a kid, teenager or even in my 20’s writing novels was waaaay out of my league. I just didn’t know enough about the process, and didn’t have the confidence to try. Things happen in their own time, and I’m satisfied that I picked it up later in life rather than never. I’ve learned so much about storytelling, and myself, that I can’t say I have too many regrets about my passion for writing.
But still, I can’t help but dream a little…
What would you do if you could go back in time to yourself as a child or teenager, equipped with the knowledge you have now? Would you fix past mistakes? Start projects or life-long goals sooner? Maybe invest in those sweet, sweet stocks! Would you even want your current knowledge, or do you think you’d just feel like a jaded 12-year-old?
WRITING UPDATES
“Shift” is still ongoing. I am a plotter and a first drafter. Editing feels like cardio to me, haha! But it’s getting there, one step at a time. If only I could go back to my past self and tell her that Act II should just be scrapped and rewritten instead of trying to fix it. But there’s no going back, so onward!
You may have noticed this newsletter’s sparkly new design. I also have a new website in the works, which will look very similar to this style. So fancy!
PERSONAL PROJECTS
My personal projects these days include playing with polymer clay, UV resin, and graphic design for custom stationery. I’m also getting back into art so that one day I can make some of my novels into graphic novels. The best time to start practising art is five years ago, but hey. The cute little dino paperclip bookmark shown is one I made for a friend’s birthday present. Crafting is so rewarding!
RECOMMENDATIONS
Music
These days, I’m into kpop, and FKA twigs (if you haven’t seen her “Eusexua” or “Perfect Stranger” music videos, you’re in for a wild ride). The weirdest combination of genres, but me likes what me likes.
Books
I’m still loving litRPG-style and cultivation books (manga and webtoons are a bad influence on me, haha!). I’m really enjoying:
“Nameless Sovereign” series by Nameless Author (what a pen name!)
“The Saintess Summons Skeletons” by Mornn,
“She of Many Dragons” by Honour Rae.
They’re all well-written stories with interesting characters, and the ‘game element’s are on the lighter side (too much math in books melts my brain).
Shows
I’ve been having a hard time finding good movies or shows to watch. I recently watched a Jason Statham movie, thinking it would be very hollywood, but good action. It was terrible, and I gave it the middle finger of disappointment. If you have any good movie or show recommendations, let me know.
